| A word from your President...Ha! I just have to say that you ladies and gents who have kept the ball rolling from the 30th reunion including organizing the scholarship fund are AMAZING! After organizing the 20th, and helping with the 2000 multi-class get-together, I dropped out of sight to concentrate on family issues and reign in the overload of volunteering (I think a lot of you know what I mean). I have to say I am so proud to be associated with you generous and hard-working (and partying!!) classmates; this website is such a wonderful way to stay in touch and I intend to be a whole lot better at it. I am sharing the thank you note I received from Bruce and Joanna Whalen (Lewis) Joanna wrote: Dear Lisa, Your name along with the Class of 1977 was given to us by the Katonah Fire Department Benevolent Assoc. as contributors to a fund for 18 year old son, Matthew. He has now finished his chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Throughout his treatments he continued to volunteer with the Fire Department, attend college full-time and work part-time. In March he will have his first post-treatment P.E.T. scan. His doctors feel that the results will be excellent. We are very hopeful that Matt's cancer treatments will be behind him. Thank you for your kindness and generosity which has allowed us to focus our energy on keeping Matt's spirit positive and on getting him well. With much gratitude, Bruce and Jo Whalen |

Hey John! How did your son do at the wrestling tournament? My daughter, Liana goes to watch some of the matches and they are often shown on the local TV channel. I don't think any of our games were ever on TV back in the day.... I think JJ looks totally different - especially when they enclosed the walkways which attached the buildings. Remember how "fun" it was to freeze going from A building to C building in the bitter cold? And of course we were all too cool to wear coats during the day! Ahhh... the good 'ol days. My kids have no idea what I'm talking about when I tell them the buildings were originally built in a "California Campus" style. And who's bright idea was that anyway? Did anyone notice that we were living in the Northeast, not CA?! |

I spent most of yesterday at John Jay at the Wrestling Tourney. It sure has changed a lot! The old gym is now split into a wrestling room on one side, and a weight room on the other. And a full gym was added on. (But I guess many of you already know.) I saw Toto Genovese there (his two boys are wrestlers at John Jay) and we talked for a while. Apparently, the class of '76 had a low turnout at their 20th reunion, and didn't have a 30th. It was fun being back there for the day. My son was impressed with all the Football Championship banners from the 70's (nine in all) hanging on the wall of the gym. Take care, everyone. Hope to see some of you soon. |

Happy Holidays to all the wonderful class of 1977. It was an honor to attend such a gala event! We definitely needed more days to reminisce. Perhaps the next gathering should be for a week! Thanks to John Pirc, I remember everything even back to second grade. I really enjoyed laughing and telling stories of yester- year. Deirdre, Susan, and Angela thanks for remembering all the special times we had as young ones. Oh, Donna could you please post a picture of the JV cheerleaders with me in it. I'm not vain, I just want to show my kids that I had braces too. They think they weren't invented yet :) Some of us have been through trials ,but they only make us better people. What warms my heart is the love inside I have from knowing all of you and the memories we shared. Some very close and some superficial yet, they are part of what makes us who we are today. I think most of us will agree that the good 'ole days are in no comparison to what our kids have to deal with today. For those of you who haven't or don't know, a John Jay Class of 1977 Scholarship Fund has been established through the Board of Education in honor of our deceased classmates. We were able to obtain tax deductible status for the fund and hope to be able to award a John Jay senior in 2008 (possibly more years as well) with a scholarship. Here's another reason to have reunions (and actually ATTEND them): You never know what's around the corner and how the people you know can be of help. Just after Thanksgiving, my sister Melanie's older son was diagnosed with a rare malignant brain tumor. His prognosis is not as good as Matt Whelan's, as he is only 2 and the treatment options are limited. He's had one surgery and is scheduled for another on Dec. 10th. Chemo starts in the New Year. Life has taken on all the aspects of a long-term siege in our family, but the one beautiful bright spot has been my correspondence with Gil Freeman and Peggy Montgomery. Their love and concern has been so comforting to Melanie and all of us, and I wouldn't even have been back in touch with them if it hadn't been for the JJHS'77 reunion! SO... stay in touch with old friends, wherever you or they may be. And treasure your children. |

| I spoke with Joanna Lewis Whalen shortly after the reunion and shared the good wishes everyone sent to her and her family. For those classmates that were not at the reunion, Johanna's 18 year old son, Matt, is undergoing chemo and radiation treatments for a cancerous tumour. His prognosis is good and they all stay very positive. A check for $115 (donations collected at the reunion) was sent to the Katonah Firemen's Benevolent Association on behalf of the JJHS class of 1977 to be given to the Whalen Family for help with expenses for Matt's care. Additional donations can be sent to: KFD Benevolent Assoc. - 65 Bedford Road, Katonah, NY 10536. (note the Whalen Fund on your check) Johanna was sorry to have missed the party, but hopefully she will be able to attend the next one with news of Matt's full recovery. | |||

Great, great time. Thanks again to the organizers!!! Many great memories shared with old friends (all the way back to elementary school). The crazy stuff we used to do "back in the day". It's amazing to see how a bunch of goofballs like us actually went on to do something (anything) with our lives. Also fun connecting with people I didn't really know very well back then at John Jay. Dearest Alumni: Most of us are bleary-eyed, but I think we all would agree it was worth every minute of it of lost sleep. Time spent/memories shared will always be in a special place in our hearts. Thanks to all of YOU for coming and supporting the biggest and best 1977 class reunion.It was wonderful to see Gil Freeman and Peg Montomery. Gil sent a note which I will post at a later date. As of this am, we raised over $500.00 for the scholarship fund!! Donna and I will talking about the particulars and we will keep you updated via this website(which will be active for abt 9 more months.) If anyone still wants a memory book($5.00 donation) please email me and I will send you one. MANY people have expressed an interest in having a 35 yr reunion, which I think the committee will go for after we get some sleep. Please let me know your thoughts about that and any postive and negative comments about the weekend(not too many negative comments please..) We are also going to set up and send via email/snail mail a yearly newsletter, so please follow this site. Tom Martin, I loved seeing you. Some fellow alumni told of their secret crushes last nite, and Tom, hate to burst your bubble or anything of the sort, you were not my crush. BUT your sidekick Joe Cerrone was.... | By now you all have had time to reconsider your actions for the weekend. I did and I'm still going! I got Joe Cerrone an extra "sock o'quarters" so if anyone wants to help apply his theropy they are welcomed to it. Kathy, thank you for offering me the shot of my choice; the only one I could think of is another shot at being 18, and with the right amount of "inspiration" I'll be there! Of course, it's a tricky elixar. One too many or too few and I'll over shoot my goal and be 12 again (or is that "still"?). Cerrone is coming with me on that trip, even if I need to stick the funnel down his throat again to get 'Grandpa's cough medicine' down his pie hole. Since you have graciously turned the temperatures down in Fishkill to below what my friggen refrigerator is set to, we will be requesting extra 'anit-freeze' for us thin-blooded Floridians. You will find me setting fire to the sofa to stay warm. Bring your own marshmallows. Lastly, ladies, when you see me please try not to smother me with smooches. I am very bashful. I am also alergic to jealous husbands, so if you think you may loose control when you see my handsome, honest and modest self, leave them home! Or I could loan you Cerrone's head bag for a few hours. Remember, I embarass easily. I will only give you 2-3 hours to stop what you are doing. Bottoms up! | |||

Boy – seeing all the old names was a blast. I can’t make it to the reunion because I live in Southern MD, have an extremely busy job and I have a grandson to take care of. My three kids are now 22, 21 and 17. I can feel the freedom right around the corner! I work for General Dynamics as an Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist. I love it so much I went back to school to get my Master’s Degree in the field. Yeah, me who cut most of my classes in high school! My family is going great. They are all still around the area. Me, I like it a little bit warmer than NY. That’s about it. Have fun at the reunion and if anyone wants to reminisce, send me an email.

| I am SO sorry. I have exposed you to Joe Cerrone, and I now owe you an explanation. See, he has a rare form of Tourette's Syndrome, and is prone to saying (and typing in this forum) the oddest things that come into his head. His "Theropy" (hitting him on the head with a sock full of quarters) seems to work but at his advanced age no one can be sure what he will do next. For now I would ask that you please not get in his way at the reunion while he is sitting on the sofa watching his favorite show, 'Matlock', and keep his walker out of the way so he doesn't have to look over the bars. Don't believe a word he says and keep your fingers away from his mouth. (We have NO idea where it's been.) At around 8 PM he'll nod off to sleep, and that's when I have to put the bag on his head to keep the flys out of his snoring mouth. I will kindly ask the DJ to play the music a lot louder so the management there doesn't think we're playing with chain-saws. Please don't be alarmed since this usually happens to prisoners after their electro-shock theropy. By the way, most of his hair grew back and he looks sort of normal. Well, 'normal' like the Taco Bell dog after a ride in the clothes dryer. Just don't stare, don't get him wet and never feed him after midnight. And please, for the love of all things holy, if he asks you to pull his finger, don't 'just humor the old man'. He is dangerous and may cause us to have our 40th reunion even FURTHER from Cross River. You do know that's the reason we are so far away this time, don't you? | |||

I am doing my best to get Joe Cerrone to go to the reunion, but he keeps putting on his Fox Lane tee shirts and propeller beenie and telling me how great he was at track, even though everyone knows he had a front row view of my heels and was always the first place loser. He also thinks his legs were better than mine in the kick-line at the variety show. He is dilusional. My legs were far better. Anyway, he's not due back for questioning until December, and by then they should have found an antidote for that itching he has. Also, IF I do get him there and anyone has anything to do with the federal government, please ignore his "I (heart) Jihad" tattoo on his forehead. He doesn't really mean it, mostly. If you can all help me by promising to send lots of shots to our table (not the flaming ones), he might just put on long pants for the night. | This whole thing has been so much fun already!! A few months back, I thought about how much fun it would be to get our class together again after 30 years. The first thing I did was put out a request in another website asking for any help....and Dave Cedarholm came to my aid all the way from New Hampshire! Then, I reconnected with Mike Cassar, and recently had dinner with him and his new wife....we had a great time and a lot of laughs! Mike loaned me his yearbook so I could get the ball rolling (I could not find mine). Soon following, I had more offers of help from Kathy Manizza, Cindy Scher, and Barbara Hilliard, and we have all been emailing each other and giggling like schoolgirls again!! Kathy has helped a great deal with finding missing classmates, and Dave has created this great website for us! Cindy and Barb have provided moral support and assistance in finding more people, as well as bringing back many old memories!!
